Canelo Alvarez said Deontay Wilder was knocked out by Tyson Fury in trilogy fight because ‘he doesn’t know how to move his head’

Deontay Wilder’s inability to ‘move the head’ cost him dearly in his third and final fight with Tyson Fury last year, Canelo Alvarez believes.

The Bronze Bomber was knocked out in the 11th round of a pulsating WBC heavyweight title fight to cap an outstanding trilogy that has been described by some as among the greatest in the sport's history.

For the second time in just 43 fights, the American was defeated in his professional career and it came at the fists of the Gypsy King under the Las Vegas lights back in October 2021.

Fury, who also stopped Wilder back in February 2020, picked himself up off the canvas on two occasions in the fourth round to complete yet another remarkable comeback.

Few can doubt the heart of the 'Bronze Bomber', yet his technical deficiencies (so often masked by the power in his right hand) were once again exposed by the superior boxer.

Canelo believes these shortcomings were the failings of Wilder.

“Great fight, great fight,” Mexican Canelo told the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer.

“I think Wilder needs more condition, more moves. He doesn't know how to move the head.

“It is difficult when you don't have that condition and you don't know how to move.

“That is why Tyson Fury beat him. Tyson Fury is a great fighter.”

The fight was considered to be one of the best in heavyweight boxing and former champion George Foreman believes a lot of that is down to referee Russell Mora.

"His weight was not listed; but the referee in the Fury/ Wilder fight on Saturday night was the true ‘giant’ of the night; non-bias from start to finish; accurate on the stoppage," he tweeted.
